Telefonica selects Huawei for SBC project

Spanish operator Telefonica has selected Huawei for the implementation of its session border controller (SBC) project in the country.

The contract will see the Chinese vendor deliver SBCs for Telefonica in Spain over the next two years to provide users with access to VoLTE, RCS and voice-over-broadband (VoBB) services.

Telefonica opened a tender for the contract in March this year, and selected Huawei for its SE2900 ‘All-In-One’ solution, designed to support diverse access modes, like RCS and VoLTE, as well as network interworking.

Huawei’s solution is also designed to support the smooth migration to network functions virtualisation (NFV) and lay the foundation for future cloud migration.

Earlier this month, Telefonica partnered with Alcatel-Lucent for the transformation of its fixed-line and mobile networks.
