Spain's Masmovil to acquire Jazztel's fibre-optic assets

Spanish operator Masmovil Ibercom is acquiring fibre optic network assets from fixed-line company Jazztel.

The Spanish company will purchase 13 of Jazztel’s broadband exchanges in order to provide fibre services to approximately 720,000 households in Spain’s largest cities.

As part of the deal, Masmovil will also gain wholesale access at a preferential price to Jazztel’s xDSL network for four years, with an extension option of another four years.

A formal approval by the European Commission is expected by the end of September 2015.

Masmovil acquired a nationwide 4G licence in December 2014 after its purchase of telecoms operator Neo. Its LTE network presently covers 191 municipalities in 26 Spanish provinces.
