Orange in talks to buy Bharti Airtel's African subsidiaries

Orange has entered into an agreement with Bharti Airtel to purchase its four subsidiaries in Africa.

The deal covered Bharti Airtel’s subsidiaries in Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville and Sierra Leone.

"There is no certainty of any binding agreement as a result of these discussions," said Orange.

The move follows Orange CEO Stephane Richard's announcement of the company’s expansion plans in North Africa last month.

Orange had 97.5 million clients in Africa and the Middle East at the end of 2014. Airtel, which offers services in 17 countries in Africa, has sold its tower assets in five African nations for over $1.3 billion. The operator is in the process of selling tower assets in six others.
