SK Telecom selects Accedian for network performance

SK Telecom has signed a deal with Accedian for the deployment of its performance monitoring solution across the South Korean operator’s mobile network.

Accedian’s solution collects network performance indicators from SK Telecom’s network infrastructure in real-time, and the operator said that the deployment reiterates its commitment to optimising performance as it moves towards SDN-controlled networking and 5G.

“At SK Telecom, best-possible quality of customer service and experience is at the heart of our reputation and our business,” said Choi Seung-won, SVO and head of network solution office at SK Telecom.

“Partnering with Accedian helps us to ensure the highest levels of QoS and QoE which is particularly important as we continue to extend our network towards 5G, and to expand coverage with small cells, making the need for 24/7, end-to-end network visibility critical.”

The solution is designed to help SK Telecom improve network performance by ensuring service performance standards with KPIs, detecting traffic bursts, locating bottlenecks and correcting network mis-configurations.

“SK Telecom is a premier example of a mobile service provider pushing network performance and technology to the limit,” said Patrick Ostiguy, founder, president and CEO at Accedian.

“They are early adopters and innovators, and their efforts result in the extremely high levels of service and experience quality their customers have come to expect.”

Accedian has deployed the performance monitoring tool in 12,000 locations across South Korea’s six largest cities and plans are in place to extend this across the nation.

Last month, SK Telecom and Nokia claimed to have successfully verified the performance of what they said was the key enabling technology for 5G.
