Liberty Wireless inks MVNO deal with Singapore’s M1

Singapore's M1 has signed a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with Liberty Wireless that would enable the latter to launch mobile services over the its mobile network.

Liberty Wireless will be the first MVNO in Singapore to offer voice, messaging and data services to postpaid customers. The service will be provided under the Circles Asia brand and is expected to launch towards the end of 2015.

M1’s CCO Lee Kok Chew said the partnership will bring about another value proposition and added choice to consumers.

Rameez Ansar, director of Liberty Wireless said: "Circles Asia’s virtual model is unique. We have set up our own innovative cloud-based network core running on top of the mobile network operator’s towers and their data pipe. Innovating on the network and software layer, we have established a model of how telcos will be built in the future.”

"Singapore is our first market, eventually, we want to take this home-grown brand and innovation approach regionally," he added.

This week, Singapore’s telecoms regulator announced its plans to introduce a fourth mobile player into the market by setting aside 60MHz spectrum at a lower reserve price in an auction only open to potential entrants.
