Claro Peru to launch TD-LTE network

Claro Peru is preparing to launch broadband services in remote areas of the country using time division long-term evolution (TD-LTE) technology, according to local reports.

Fixed-line infrastructure is not feasible in some remote areas of Peru – due to both geographical restrictions and municipal and administrative obstacles – meaning citizens struggle with connectivity.

The operator is reportedly planning to launch a fixed-mobile service in these areas in the second half of this year.

Robert Bellido, deputy director of residential markets at Claro Peru, told reporters that he expects the network to complement Claro’s existing fixed-line services and allow more Peruvians to benefit from its offerings.

Rival operator Movistar became the first to launch LTE services in Peru in January last year.
