Chunghwa Telecom selects Ericsson for LTE expansion

Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom has signed a further agreement with Ericsson for the expansion of the operator’s LTE network in the country.

Ericsson will use its mobile broadband technology to boost Chunghwa’s 4G LTE coverage and capacity in Taiwan, in a bid to provide end users with an enhanced 4G experience.

“The rapid growth of 4G subscriptions has exceeded our expectations. We see a huge data demand and shifting consumer behaviour to more data-centric services,” said Lin Kuo-Feng, president of Chunghwa Telecom’s mobile business group.

“We are pleased to keep leveraging Ericsson’s global practices to offer the best-of-breed mobile network, advance user experience and to develop applications for enterprise customers.”

Ericsson is the sole supplier of Chunghwa’s core network, and the expansion will also include a small cell build-out.

“This further demonstrates our commitment to our long term strategic business relationship with Chunghwa Telecom,” said Jan Signell, head of region North East Asia at Ericsson.

“As a major supplier to Taiwan’s largest operator, it is our mutual interests to not only deliver a superior network to optimise customer’s experience, but also create new revenue opportunities for Chunghwa Telecom in the enterprise business segment.”
