Huawei makes breakthrough with railway LTE technology

Huawei has completed pilot testing of 4G LTE services using Communications-based Train Control (CBTC).

In collaboration with energy solutions and transport company Alstom, Huawei completed what it claims is the world first LTE service based on CBTC; a railway signalling system used for mobile ground-to-train communication.

The pilot is said to mark a major step forward in the LTE commercialisation of CBTC services.

Alstom is the first train manufacturer to integrate LTE 4G into its signalling system solution, which provides a converged ground-to-train wireless communication network for metro operations.

The LTE pilot project was launched in April 2014, with Huawei providing the eLTE network required for the pilot and Alstom providing the train and LTE-compliant on-board equipment.
