AIS and Alcatel-Lucent deploy 100G network in Thailand

Thai mobile operator AIS has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent for the roll-out of a 100G optical transport network in the country.

The network is expected to help AIS meet the growing demands for data capacity in Thailand, and will involve the upgrade of AIS’ existing 10G optical network.

Work will begin in Bangkok before moving out to the North and Northeast regions of Thailand.

“Our customers are accessing more video on their smartphones all the time,” said Weerawat Kiattipongthaworn, SVP of operations at AIS.

“AIS has selected Alcatel-Lucent as a new DWDM vendor in our network as they managed to bring together a business proposal composed of the best products, the best prices and the best people.”

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) optical platform to enable AIS to offer high-speed, ultra-broadband internet access to its customers.

In November last year, Alcatel-Lucent signed a four-year framework agreement with Thailand’s True Corporation for the deployment of an IP transport network in the country.
