Equinix and GCX pen interconnect deal

Equinix and Reliance Communications’ Global Cloud Exchange (GCX) have signed a global interconnect agreement.

The deal will enable direct access to the Equinix Cloud Exchange via GCX’s Cloud X Fusion at six locations: Los Angeles, Ashburn, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Singapore.

“This collaboration empowers enterprises to simplify and accelerate their increasingly strategic deployments of cloud and demonstrates another milestone in our global cloud strategy,” said Bill Barney, CEO of Global Cloud Xchange.

“Through the interconnection of Cloud X Fusion and Equinix Cloud Exchange, customers will instantly benefit from the added flexibility and global reach to be more competitive, especially as we look at new opportunities in today’s fastest growing emerging markets including the Middle East and India.”

Cloud X Fusion is part of GCX’s cloud portfolio, and will allegedly deliver enterprise level connectivity into Equinix’ cloud platform.

In doing so, the Equinix Cloud Exchange will be able to extend its reach from 19 carrier neutral data centres to all 105 Equinix IBX facilities on GCX’s subsea fibre infrastructure.

“As enterprises become more adept at integrating, aggregating and orchestrating cloud, it is mission critical to have a reliable, secure, and high-performance network connectivity to succeed in this new landscape,” said Steve Smith, CEO of Equinix.

“We are pleased to have GCX as part of our growing Equinix cloud ecosystem.”
