Vodafone confirms initial discussions with Liberty Global

Vodafone has confirmed that it has held initial discussions with Liberty Global regarding an exchange of assets.

The confirmation follows media reports about a potential deal, although Vodafone has made clear that a merger of the two companies is not under consideration.

“Vodafone confirms that it is in the early stages of discussions with Liberty Global regarding a possible exchange of selected assets between the two companies. There is no certainty that any transaction will be agreed, nor is there certainty with respect to which assets will ultimately be involved,” the company said in a brief statement on its website.

Vodafone’s presence in European markets such as the UK, Germany and Holland would complement Liberty’s cable service, opening up the potential to offer quad-play services.
