DE-CIX customers increase capacity in Q1

DE-CIX has announced that many of its customers have increased their port size and capacity in the first quarter of this year, in a bid to keep up with growing data traffic volumes.

Following a successful first year for its New York exchange, DE-CIX said that customers of its original German exchange in Frankfurt ordered the same number of 100GE ports in Q1 this year as they did for the entirety of 2014.

Akamai, for example, upgraded its capacity at DE-CIX Frankfurt to 12x100GE connections, enabling the delivery of 1.2Tbps.

“Our goal is for our customers’ content to arrive as quickly as possible at its final destination, no matter where in the world the end user is,” said Noam Freedman, SVP of networks and chief network architect at Akamai Technologies.

“With more than 700 internet service providers worldwide, DE-CIX is one of our most important internet exchange providers. With the implementation of its DE-CIX Apollon technology platform to easily handle 100GE demands, DE-CIX has made it very easy for us to expand our capacity there. In this way, we are well positioned for the growing IP traffic volumes around the world.”

Akamai was the first customer of the DE-CIX New York exchange in May last year.
