HP launches NFV platform

HP has launched an NFV platform designed to help communication service providers accelerate production NFV deployments.

The HP OpenNFV programme is said to enable service providers to launch services faster as well as enhance their service offerings through the virtualisation of network functions.

The solution includes the HP NFV Starter Kit, which contains compute nodes with carrier-grade performance; the HP NFV Compute Kit, which consists of server nodes that run virtual network functions workloads; and the HP NFV Control Kit, which consists of HP Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade virtual infrastructure management software and physical infrastructure management software.

HP claims that with its solution, service providers can combine commercial off-the-shelf hardware with virtualisation to test and deploy offerings in minutes, rather than months.

“NFV represents one of the most significant shifts the telecommunications industry has experienced in 20 years,” said Martin Fink, EVP and CTO at HP.

“HP’s OpenNFV programme combines HP’s technology leadership with a strong partner ecosystem to enable our customers to leverage new market opportunities faster while managing spiralling costs.”

At this year’s Mobile World Congress, the company announced that it will be the key technology provider for Telefonica’s Unica network virtualisation project.
