GCX launches PoP in Dubai

Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) has launched a PoP at datamena’s facility in Dubai.

The move will extend GCX’s coverage across the Middle East and Africa, in particular offering access to Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia by cross connecting with other Gulf service providers at datamena.

“GCX has a committed and long standing history of serving customers in the Middle East and it continues to be a strong market for us,” said Wilfred Kwan, COO, GCX. “[The move will] further enhance our ability to meet the growing demand for high performance, low latency connectivity across these emerging markets. We look forward to actively contributing to the regional economy.”

GCX claims to be one the largest wholesale IP providers in the Middle East and Africa region, offering regional connectivity for both enterprises and network operators through wholly-owned cables, such as FEA, Falcon and Hawk.

GCX’s parent company, Reliance Communications, has also announced that it is restructuring its business units.

The move will see GCX CEO Bill Barney also take change Reliance’s enterprise, IDC and national long distance (NLD) operations in India.

“Over the past year, Bill has demonstrated leadership and innovation in bringing our international business to a new stage of growth and expansion,” said Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, group managing director, Reliance Group. “We are confident that in his expanded role, Bill will accelerate our growth in the entire enterprise and IDC space, both in India and overseas.”

Barney will continue to operate out of Hong Kong and Mumbai.
