Wind Mobile shakes up executive board

Canada's Wind Mobile has appointed former head of Public Mobile Alek Krstajic as CEO, in a shake-up of its board which also includes the departure of founder Anthony Lacavera.

Prior to Public Mobile, Krstajic was president of Bell Mobility, a BCE unit, and SVP at Rogers Communications’ cable unit. He will become Wind’s fourth CEO since the company began operating in 2009, replacing interim CEO Pietro Cordova.

"We are very happy to welcome Alek as our new CEO. His strong operating history will further strengthen Wind as the company solidifies its place in the Canadian wireless landscape," said Lacavera, Wind’s founder.

Joining Wind's board of directors is Rob MacLellan, a chartered accountant, who will also replace Lacavera as the company’s chairman. MacLellan is non-executive chair of private-equity firm Northleaf Capital Partners, an independent director at media company YPG Financing and management company T. Rowe Price Group. Lacavera will remain as honorary chairman.

Wind also elected David Carey, EVP of corporate services at T-Mobile, and Hamid Akhavan, principal at Telecom Ventures, as directors of its board.

"The addition of such huge talents to Wind Mobile's leadership team and board of directors further reinforces our position within the Canadian telecom landscape," said Lacavera.

"This group brings with it a wealth of expertise, robust experience and strong knowledge in their respective industries and will prove to be extremely valuable to Wind Mobile as we continue to grow our presence in Canada."

Last September, VimpelCom and Egypt's Global Telecom sold their majority stake in Wind at a steep discount for $122.05 million to investment group Globalive Capital.
