China Unicom Hong Kong joins Etisalat SmartHub

China Unicom Hong Kong has joined Etisalat’s SmartHub facility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a bid to expand its regional reach.

A wholly owned subsidiary of China Unicom, China Unicom Hong Kong hopes Etisalat’s SmartHub will enable it to expand its advanced data network capabilities, and deliver high-speed data services, such as IPLC/IEPL, MPLS-VPN and IP transit to carrier and enterprise customers in MEA.

Ali Amiri, EVP of carrier and wholesale services at Etisalat, said that SmartHub is a strategic initiative by Etisalat.

“More operators and content providers appreciate the one stop shop for connectivity to the region that the SmartHub offers to them,” Amiri said.

“We are of course delighted that China Unicom has joined SmartHub. We look forward to many more years of cooperation to enhance the customer experience.”

Yueri Ma, EVP at China Unicom Hong Kong, added that “the rising significance of UAE’s strategic position as the communication network hub for the Middle East and Africa region underpins the importance of this partnership in our expansion plan.”

Last week at Capacity Middle East in Dubai, Etisalat also revealed the addition of Australia’s Telstra to its SmartHub.
