Wateen Telecom and TICI sign regional interconnect deal

Pakistan’s Wateen Telecom signed a regional interconnect deal with Telecommunication Infrastructure Company of Iran (TICI) today at Capacity Middle East 2015 in Dubai, UAE, for the provisioning of data and voice services in the region.

The deal is the first between Wateen Telecom and TICI, and is designed to enable both companies to improve services to their customers via high capacity international terrestrial cable connectivity at Taftan-MirJaveh; the border between Pakistan and Iran.

The agreement enables the cross border interconnect between Iran and Pakistan for IPLC transit, as well as the buying and selling of capacity.

“We welcome this historical arrangement for sharing of traffic between the two countries and putting place building blocks for a new transit route for connecting Pakistan and Iran to the region and onto Europe,” said Junaid Sheikh, general manager of enterprise and global carrier business at Wateen Telecom.

In June last year, Wateen Telecom appointed Rizwan Tiwana as its chief executive
