CityFibre to transform Edinburgh into Gigabit City

UK-based network infrastructure provider CityFibre is to deploy a 150km high-speed, pure fibre network in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The city-wide fibre network is expected to transform Edinburgh’s digital infrastructure to provide gigabit speed connectivity. The project is claimed to be CityFibre’s largest Gigabit City investment and it’s second in Scotland.

CityFibre has partnered with Scottish network service provider Commsworld for the roll-out, and plans are already underway with construction due to begin this summer.

“With thriving financial, tech and media sectors, Edinburgh’s businesses are poised to take advantage of a digital head-start, providing them with a competitive advantage at home and abroad,” said Greg Mesch, CEO at CityFibre.

“We are seeing huge demand for ultra-fast connectivity and as we continue this shift to service-based economies, a modern digital infrastructure could not be more critical to a city’s success.”

CityFibre has been driving a number of Gigabit City initiatives across the UK, including those in Coventry, Peterborough and York.
