Indosat and Ericsson launch M2M platform

Ooredoo’s Indosat and Sweden’s Ericsson have launched a cloud-based M2M platform in Indonesia.

The Ericsson Device Connection Platform (DCP) uses technologies suited to emerging markets to develop connected solutions for these areas.

Indosat is Ooredoo’s first group member to launch the platform, with its Qatar, Algeria and Tunisia operations set to follow later this year.

Nasser Marafih, group CEO at Ooredoo, said that its cloud-based M2M service delivers a high level and agile solution to its business customers.

“This launch is the first in a series of group-wide innovations that will deliver better results for businesses,” Marafih said.

“Additionally the platform will play a key role in speeding up the implementation of smart city technologies, supporting our customer’s connected lives and helping develop smarter economies, smarter infrastructure, smarter environments and smarter governance in the markets that we operate in.”

Market watchers expect IoT and M2M technology to be a key driver of business growth in Indonesia over the next five years, and Indosat has developed an extensive range of products and services for businesses in the sector.

“M2M will enable the full potential of our vision of the networked society, where everything that benefits for being connected will be connected,” said Thomas Jul, head of Ericsson Indonesia.

“With Indosat we will explore the opportunities that will arise with M2M and empower people, business and society in Indonesia.”

Last November, Indonesia’s Telkomsel signed an agreement with Jasper to provide IoT and M2M services to businesses in the country.
