Huawei opens R&D centre in Bangalore

Huawei has opened a $170 million R&D centre in Bangalore, India.

The one million square foot facility, which will accommodate up to 5000 engineers, is Huawei’s largest outside of China and the first of its kind by a Chinese company in India.

It is said to signal the close cooperation between the two countries and forms part of Huawei’s long-term commitment to the Indian government’s “Make in India” campaign.

The facility will become the main development and delivery centre for Huawei’s global customers, supporting $46 billion worth of revenue.

It will focus on developing software products and platforms in area such as IP-based data transmission networks, intelligent networks, BSS, OSS and terminal devices. It will also focus on future technologies, such as SDN, big data, cloud and mobile internet.

“As a global ICT organisation which relies on its own extensive R&D expertise, the India R&D centre is an important hub of innovation for Huawei,” said Wilson Wang, COO, Huawei India Research and Development Centre.
