DE-CIX New York signs MoU with Open-IX

DE-CIX North America has today started the process of becoming Open-IX-certified by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Open-IX Association (OIX).

OIX is a non-profit industry organisation designed to promote better standards for data centre interconnection and internet exchanges, and the MoU was signed by officials from both DE-CIX and OIX in San Antonio, Texas.

“DE-CIX has been following the development of Open-IX closely,” said Harald Summa, president at DE-CIX. “Open-IX has gained traction and proves to be valuable to the continued evolution of the US internet marketplace. We look forward to being a part of it.”

Technical requirements from OIX for IXPs include a minimum level of functionality for exchanges, as well as the delivery of publicly available information to the participants of the exchange about the quality and functionality of its service offering and physical infrastructure.

“With nine switched in seven data centres and more than 100 access points, the DE-CIX New York exchange provides more access for customers than any other North American internet exchange,” said Frank Orlowski, CMO at DE-CIX

“We are in the process of adding three additional facilities to our New York network, as we believe reach is a crucial success factor for us,” he added.

DE-CIX has also announced the appointment of Steven Schecter, senior manager of network architecture at Akamai Technologies, as the first member of its customer advisory board for its operations in North America.
