The three groups tested the 3-carrier high-speed downlink packet access (3C-HSDPA) and the dual-carrier high-speed uplink packet access (DC-HSUPA) on the 3G network, achieving a peak rate of 63Mbps (downlink) and 11Mbps (uplink).
AIS now claims to be the first mobile operator in south east Asia to test the world’s fastest 3G technology.
The trial also included a live trial in the Ari district of Bangkok, using Huawei’s RAN software and a smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.
In November last year, AIS revealed plans to invest 60 billion baht (approximately $1.8 billion) in the first stage of its 4G project this year.
Last December, Qualcomm and Huawei joined forces with the UK’s EE for the successful interoperability testing of LTE category 9 connectivity.
