Tata to take capacity on Seabras-1

Tata Communications has acquired “significant” capacity on Seaborn Networks’ US-Brazil cable, which is due to go operational in Q4 2016.

Tata joins Microsoft Corporation as among the first announced customers on the $500 million Seabras-1 cable, which will directly link New York, US and São Paulo, Brazil.

The move signals Tata’s growing focus on the Latin America region.

“Latin America is a key emerging region and growing market on the world stage and our investment in Seabras-1 is part of our plan to enhance our offerings into that region,” said Genius Wong, SVP, global network services, Tata Communications.

Last week, Seaborn Networks announced that it had secured global private markets management firm Partners Group for its Seabras-1 cable.
