TeliaSonera launches LTE-A in Lithuania

TeliaSonera’s Lithuanian arm, Omnitel, has launched LTE-Advanced services in five cities across the country; Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai and Panevezys.

The mobile operator also claims to be providing LTE connectivity to 80% of the country’s population, and plans to extend this coverage, as well as its LTE-A presence, in 2015.

Said to operate the largest 4G LTE network in Lithuania, Omnitel will use spectrum in the 800MHz band to facilitate its expansion plans.

Omnitel deployed its first LTE services in April 2011 and in September 2014 partnered with Huawei for the vendor’s Blade Site solution, designed to support operators as they address challenges in site acquisition.
