Nokia Networks doubles speed of Sonera’s 4G Network

Nokia Networks is claiming to have doubled the speed of Sonera’s 4G network in Helsinki, Finland.

The LTE-Advanced network is said to enable Sonera, one of the leading mobile operators in Finland, to offer download data speeds of up to 300Mbps in certain parts of Helsinki.

The network utilises 1800MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands, providing higher network capacity, performance and data speeds. The service has initially been made available to Sonera’s business customers.

“Over 60% of Finns use smartphones and generate more data traffic than customers using older devices,” said Kalev Reiljan, CTO of TeliaSonera Finland. “With LTE-Advanced we make sure our network can address these capacity changes now and in the future.”

2014 has seen a number of carrier in Europe launch LTE-A networks. Last month, Telekom Austria Group began offering LTE-A services in Austria and Slovenia, while UK operator EE launched its LTE-A network in Central London in October.
