Tele2 Netherlands sets 2015 LTE-A launch date

Tele2 Netherlands has revealed plans to launch its 4G LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in the country in March 2015.

In a statement, the company said that the first network clusters will be launched in the next three weeks and will cover an area between Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The roll-out is then expected to continue across the country and Tele2 expects to reach nationwide coverage by March 2016.

“Over the past two years, the team at Tele2 has been focussed on building the best-performing 4G network in the Netherlands, with the ambition of giving our customers a mobile experience that will secure their lifetime loyalty,” said Jeff Dodds, CEO at Tele2 Netherlands.

“Thanks to our extremely low set-up and operating costs, we believe Tele2 is in the best possible position to challenge the incumbent Dutch operators in a market where 4G is still considered by consumers to be an expensive premium service and price levels for mobile data remain amongst the highest in Europe.”

Tele2 Netherlands has no 2G or 3G network to maintain, and claims to be the first provider in the world to be launching a 4G-only network.

The network from the operator has been a long time coming, following a delay in its launch in 2013.
