Alcatel-Lucent appoints EMEA head

Alcatel-Lucent has today announced the appointment of Willem Hendrickx as president of the French vendor’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations.

Hendrickx replaces Luis Martinez Amago, who will be taking on a new role at Alcatel-Lucent, and leaves his position as SVP for EMEA at Riverbed Technology. His role will be effective of January 1 2015.

With 20 years’ experience in the ICT sector – including senior sales and management positions at EMC and Tieto – Hendrickx will be responsible for all sales activities and operational management of the company’s activities in EMEA.

“Willem brings to us vast experience in the broader IT and telecoms market,” said Michel Combes, Alcatel-Lucent CEO.

“He has the perfect background to support our objectives in executing the Shift Plan in Europe, Middle East and Africa as we apply our strengths in innovation to become specialist in IP, cloud and ultra-broadband access.”

A Belgian national, Hendrickx has a degree in commercial sciences, and a Masters degree in Economics.

“Furthermore, his commercial understanding of converged technology needs will be a huge asset as we diversify into new market segments, such as extra-large enterprises.”
