Ooredoo to launch 400G network in Algeria

Ooredoo Algeria will launch a 400G optical network connecting Algeria’s major cities of Algiers, Constantine and Oran before the end of the year.

The 400G backbone is Ooredoo’s first in Africa and is said to provide increased speeds and capacity to the Algerian market.

The network is based on Alcatel-Lucent’s Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical transport technology and utilises its 1830 Photonic Service Switch platform.

“Our 400G network will be instrumental to support the best quality of experience (QoE) for our customers as well as to increase our market share in Algeria. Through this game-changing achievement we intend to consolidate our technology leadership within the Maghreb region, but also in Algeria in order to offer to our clients a best-in-class network in terms of capacity and speed,” said Joseph Ged, CEO at Ooredoo Algeria.
