EXCLUSIVE: CAT Telecom says product development is key to voice traffic growth

Capacity Asia day 2 – Kajornsak Singhaseni, SEVP at CAT Telecom, has highlighted cost optimisation and product development as key drivers of growth in the declining voice traffic sector.

During the first of three quick-fire industry presentations at Capacity Asia 2014 in Bangkok this morning, Singhaseni noted that although there is a significant decline in voice traffic, operators can still reap revenue from this sector if they handle it correctly.

“We need to change our connectivity from TDM circuits and move into the IP era,” Singhaseni said. “We also need to invest in new technologies that will provide better voice services.”

Singhaseni named IPX, HD voice and voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) as important areas with growth potential.

CAT seems to have a large focus on developing these voice technologies, and Singhaseni revealed that the company is working on a voice gateway for 2015.

The gateway will feature an IP-based exchange, IPX capabilities, HD voice and VoLTE services, as well as the ability to support IPv6.
