Telkom Indonesia to monetise 4,000 telecoms towers

Capacity Asia day 1 – PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) has announced plans to monetise 4,000 of its 17,000 telecoms towers.

The towers are owned by the Indonesian operator’s subsidiary PT Telkomsel, and CEO Indra Utoyo confirmed the news to local reporters this week.

Telkom shareholder SingTel – with a 35% stake in the company – is also said to have approved the plan. The company also intends to work with PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure.

Telkom has been heavily focussed on its investment strategy this year, and today’s announcement follows news in August that the company was looking to invest in Silicon Valley. Later in October, the operator said it plans to triple its broadband investment next year.

The first panel discussion of the day at Capacity Asia will begin at 10.20am in the conference room and will focus on the future of content in the Asia-Pacific market and the role carriers will play.
