AIS selects Huawei for mobile broadband

Thai mobile operator AIS has announced a partnership with Huawei for the upgrade of its mobile broadband network in the country.

AIS will implement Huawei’s Active Antenna Unit (AAU)-based Easy Macro solution across AIS’s network, in a bid to create a high-quality mobile broadband network in Thailand, and enhance end-user experience.

“Deploying Huawei Easy Macro solution across our network in the major cities will support our capacity needs as we bring mobile broadband to the people of Thailand,” an AIS executive said in a statement. “We are delighted to work with Huawei, one of our main suppliers. Their commitment to developing leading technologies and focussing on innovation supports us to meet our goals.”

Mobile broadband is gathering momentum in Thailand and AIS has been working hard to meet this demand with plans to invest $142 million in Thai broadband in October, as well as those to increase its small cell sites in the country in September.

Huawei’s solution is designed to simultaneously support both UMTS and LTE technologies on multi-bands, and the company’s AAU solutions have been deployed across more than 37 networks worldwide, including China, Peru, Egypt and a number across Europe.
