Telefónica and Telenor sign IPX peering deal

Capacity Europe day 2 – Telefónica Global Solutions and Telenor Global Services revealed an IPX peering agreement at Capacity Europe 2014 in Amsterdam this morning.

The peering interconnection includes roaming signalling services such as SS7 and LTE Diameter, as well as IPX transport for data roaming.

“The partnership between Telenor Global Services and Telefónica Global Solutions enables the mobile operators of the two Groups to easily expand their global business,” said Bjørn Iversen, CEO at Telenor Global Services.

“At the same time it provides mobile subscribers with seamless international LTE/4G roaming as well as enabling a high quality voice and data service experience.”

The global interconnection is any-to-any for the local operations of both players and can be extended to other on-net service providers; enabling both to increase their 4G LTE global footprints.

The IPX agreement is able to be integrated with other services such as VoLTE, and is fully compliant with GSMA and i3Forum IPX guidelines.

“This agreement with our strategic partner is further evidence of our commitment to deliver quality and feature-rich services to our customers, who are increasingly demanding from us greater speed, end-to-end quality, security and reach,” said Juan Revilla, CEO Wholesale Business Unit at Telefónica Global Solutions.

“In particular, mobile subscribers increasingly want a seamless global roaming experience and this deal will ensure that we can meet those expectations.”

Telefónica Global Solutions has been shortlisted in several categories for this evening’s Global Carrier Awards 2014 in Amsterdam, including best Latin American wholesale carrier and best service innovation.
