Security to keep telcos relevant in connected world

Capacity Europe day 1 – Network security could play a major role in keeping telcos relevant in the connected world, Wired editor David Rowan told delegates this morning at Capacity Europe.

During his keynote speech, Rowan highlighted some of the technologies, trends and companies set to transform the internet of things (IoT) space in the next 10 years.

From flying cars to connected pets, Rowan painted a compelling picture of the connected device market and its potential impact on society.

“We are entering the era of pretty smart networks,” he says. “By 2024, the networks will have an emotional understanding.”

Rowan warned that in order for telcos to avoid becoming commoditised by their networks, they should “sell reassurance”.

“Security is my biggest concern at the moment. The vulnerability of networks is terrifying,” he added.

He also urged operators to adopt the mentality of a tech startup in order to “disrupt before you’re disrupted”.
