Ericsson launches OPNFV certification programme

Swedish vendor Ericsson, a platinum member of the open platform for network functions virtualisation (OPNFV), has today launched a certification programme for the initiative.

Established earlier this year, OPNFV is an open-source project, designed to accelerate the evolution of NFV, and Ericsson’s certification programme will develop an environment to ensure NFV solutions and infrastructures are compatible with emerging NFV standards.

“The OPNFV certification program will certify vendors for compliance with the NFV standards being developed on the OPNFV reference platform,” said Paolo Colella, VP and head of consulting and systems integration at Ericsson.

“Ericsson is a firm believer in the potential that NFV holds for telecommunications, and this certification programme is one of the concrete steps we are taking to hasten its adoption.”

Hosted by the Linux Foundation, the OPNFV is designed to enable carrier and vendor communities to work together to advance NFV solutions; ensuring consistency, performance and interoperability.

Ericsson’s programme will validate workload portability, flexibility, scalability and full-stack interoperability of features, functions and interfaces, as well as benchmark performance where necessary.

The programme marks a drive towards the acceleration of NFV solutions for the vendor, which partnered with Telstra in August this year for an agreement which includes the introduction of SDN and NFV functionalities.
