Due to become operational in December, BKNIX aims to increase capacity and encourage greater efficiency in local internet traffic routing in south east Asia. It will be used by ISPs and content providers, which will be able to diversify local and regional peering and data exchange.
BKNIX will be powered by Alcatel-Lucent’s 7750 Service Router, leveraging 400Gbps FP3 silicon technology in order to deliver a range of IP services.
“Asia-Pacific is the world's largest internet market, and south east Asia in particular is a rapidly emerging sub-region that includes some of the largest users of social media in the world,” said Rajnesh Singh, head of the Internet Society’s Asia-Pacific bureau.
The Internet Society has been working with countries and internet community partners for more than 20 years to facilitate core network development, interconnection and internet traffic exchange, as well as assisting with training individuals to build and maintain internet infrastructure in their region.
Its work with BKNIX forms part of its Society’s Interconnection and Traffic Exchange (ITE) Programme, which is designed to support the development of interconnection and traffic exchange landscape in developing regions of the world.
