AIS to invest $142 million in Thai broadband

Thailand’s Advanced Info Service (AIS) is reportedly planning a $142.2 million (4.6 billion baht) investment in fixed-line broadband networks in the country.

The country’s largest mobile operator hopes to use this to address the growing demand for high-speed internet services in Thailand, Somchai Lertsuthiwong, CEO at AIS, confirmed to local reporters.

The company has maintained its 2014 revenue growth target of 1-2%, having reduced this from 6-8% in August, following several months of political unrest in the country.

In September, the company said it was boosting its number of small cell sites to 3,000 facilities across Thailand.
