Liquid Telecom selects NTT for African IP transit services

Liquid Telecom has today revealed a partnership with NTT Communications for the delivery of IP transit services to support growing bandwidth demands across Africa.

Signed at Capacity Africa 2014 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the deal is designed to tackle the projected growth in demand for bandwidth in Africa, which, according to TeleGeography, is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 51% between 2012 and 2019.

“We are delighted to have been selected by Liquid Telecom for the provision of IP transit,” said Simon Waller, head of global IP network sales in EMEA at NTT Communications.

“Liquid Telecom provides vital internet access to ISPs and content providers throughout the African continent and therefore have extremely high expectations for service quality. We look forward to exceeding these expectations.”

TeleGeography expects Africa to have the highest bandwidth demand growth in the world over the next few years, and Andrew Alston, head of IP strategy at Liquid Telecom, said that demand for IP capacity on its pan-African fibre network is growing above and beyond global forecasts for the continent.

“NTT Com is a reliable supplier which will provide us with high-quality IP transit to and from the global internet across all continents,” Alston said. “Liquid Telecom shares NTT Com’s IPv6 pioneering vision, with IPv6 rolled out fully across our entire African backbone.”

Capacity Africa 2014 concludes today in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
