Tigo Honduras to launch LTE in 2015

Tigo Honduras plans to launch 4G LTE services in the country early next year, the company’s communications manager, Rodolfo Caraccioli, has revealed.

The services will initially be launched in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba, and will reportedly be expanded to approximately 25% of its subscriber base “in due course”.

Caraccioli said that the company had invested up to $30 million in the network, which is due to become operational in Q1 2015 with download speeds of 20Mbps.

Tigo Honduras secured spectrum for the network from the country’s regulator, Comision Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Conatel), in October 2013, and in May 2014, the company said it would invest $100 million in network upgrades this year.
