Chunghwa Telecom selects Coriant for 4G expansion

Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom has partnered with Coriant for the upgrade of its mobile backhaul network in the country.

Coriant will upgrade Chunghwa Telecom’s 4G LTE infrastructure in Taiwan, as part of the operator’s strategy to utilise advanced technologies for the delivery of high-quality broadband services to customers in the country.

“We are upgrading our LTE network to meet the ever-increasing expectations of our 10 million mobile subscribers,” said Reui-Chang Hsu, VP of Chunghwa Telecom. “Having a reliable vendor like Coriant with innovative leading-edge products that support our ambitious expansion plan is crucial for us.”

Coriant will deploy its 7090 packet transport platform, which provides the foundation for a number of end-user services such as Triple Play, Carrier Ethernet and private line services.

Chunghwa Telecom’s modernised infrastructure will enable service providers in the country to increase revenues by offering customers these services on a packet-based network, with the flexibility to support increasing bandwidth demands.

“With our 7090 Packet Transport Platform, Chunghwa Telecom will be able to provide their mobile customers competitive broadband services while maintaining the same reliable service they experience today," said Mikko Lavanti, EVP of sales at Coriant.

"We are pleased that Chunghwa Telecom selected the Coriant 7090 Packet Transport Platform and look forward to supporting their service needs in the future.”

In February this year, Chunghwa Telecom selected Ericsson for its charging and policy control solutions.
