The build-out of S1H section represents the Thailand to Vietnam and Hong Kong section of the network, and the contract came into force from Wednesday this week.
AAE-1 has now awarded contracts from the build out of the S1S and S2 segments of the cable, and signals progress in linking major cities in Asia, Africa and Europe.
Stretching approximately 25,000km, AAE-1 is scheduled to be ready in 2016 and will be the first submarine cable to pass through the Songkhla and Satun provinces in southern Thailand.
AAE-1 will also link south east Asian nations to Africa and Europe via the Middle East.
“We are proud to be part of a cable system initiative that will provide additional empowerment for the economies of all the nations along its route,” said Troy Li, AAE-1’s management committee chairman.
“The project will also serve consortium members’ business interests in the Asia-Africa trade corridor and their plans to deliver services into Africa and on to the Middle East.”
NEC has experience in building submarine cables across Asia-Pacific, and the consortium will work with the company to build the Thailand-Hong Kong segment.
“Backed by more than 40 years of experience in constructing some 200,000km of submarine cable infrastructure, this advanced system enables NEC to capitalise on its expertise and contribute to worldwide communications,” added Naoki Yoshida, GM of the submarine network division at NEC.
