PCCW Global extends support for TSF by three years

PCCW Global has announced plans to extend its support to NGO Télécoms Sans Frontiéres (TSF) for the next three years.

PCCW Global has collaborated with TSF since 2008, and claims to be the first Asian carrier to support the organisation.

With the company’s contributions, the NGO said it has been able to respond to 67 emergencies across the globe since 2008 and train hundreds of international NGOs to use telecoms and information technologies for emergency responses.

PCCW said that it understands the role telecoms can play in helping to coordinate relief efforts to deliver critical services to affected areas.

“The groundbreaking work that TSF does around the world is making a real difference to people in crisis,” said Mike van den Bergh, chief marketing officer of PCCW Global. “At PCCW Global, we believe that it is our responsibility to support those in need in any way possible, and as a telecoms provider we are in a unique position to be able to offer invaluable support to organisations like TSF.”

In 2014, through the support of PCCW Global, TSF has been able to implement various projects, including an mHealth programme for indigenous people in Brazil, a medical education project in Myanmar, and it has established a response hub in Africa to improve emergency response capacities.

“PCCW Global’s support will allow us to continue to expand our operations globally, further our ability to respond to disasters and sustain support to communities in times of crisis,” added TSF’s president and co-founder, Jean-Francois Cazenave.

Across Asia, TSF has aided the effort to help earthquake-stricken Haitians connect with the world and collaborated with the UN to co-ordinate relief efforts following Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
