MPT to modernise Myanmar network

Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) is set to modernise and expand its domestic core infrastructure.

The Myanmar incumbent is to deploy Dialogic’s intelligent call control solutions, as well as its session border controllers and media gateways across multiple locations in the country.

The move is said to help provide a high-quality service for operators entering the market.

“With the market opening up, we looked for a solution that would give us the geographic redundancy, scalability and unique bandwidth optimisation necessary to stay competitive,” said an MPT official. “We saw how other carriers were benefitting from Dialogic’s technology, and knew it was the best solution to help MPT modernise our network while continuing to ensure reliable service for customers.”

The company is also said to be partnering with Japan’s KDDI to support plans to increase its subscriber base.

Local sources also suggest MPT is preparing to reduce its per-minute call rates as a response to Ooredoo’s recent entrance in to the market.

Capacity will hold its second Myanmar Connect conference in Nay Pyi Taw, on September 16-17 2014.
