SingTel to launch 4G LTE-A in partnership with Samsung and Ericsson

SingTel has partnered with Samsung and Ericsson to launch the world’s first 300Mbps 4G LTE-A service for smartphones.

The companies claim the feat is an industry first, and will be available from later this week to coincide with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 4G+.

The device is designed to be compatible with 4G LTE Advanced networks, and the company will launch another smartphone with the same capabilities from September 2014.

SingTel said it has been working with vendor Ericsson to expand its 4G LTE Advanced network across Singapore, and street level coverage now extends to 55% of the country.

“We have accelerated our network roll out programme and are on track to achieve nationwide outdoor coverage by the first quarter of 2015,” said Tay Yeow Lian, SingTel’s managing director of networks.”

Its network has now developed to areas including Orchard, the CBD, Shenton Way, City Hall, Ang Mo Kio, Tampines, Jurong, Telok, Biangah and Woodlands.

“By building high performance mobile networks, SingTel provides its customers with mobile services that enrich their lives,” said Raymond Soh, Head of Engagement Practices, Singapore & Brunei, Ericsson. “Apps on smartphones and tablets are increasingly becoming the way we navigate our day and Carrier Aggregation ensures that customers always get the best experience on-the-go, even at cell edges.”

Indoor coverage is also available in 29 locations.
