Virgin Mobile could strike a partnership with Russian operator Movilnet Group to launch operations in Ecuador.

According to reports in the county, Ecuador’s minister of telecommunications met with representatives from both companies to establish plans for launching mobile services in the country, including the evolution to 4G.

Virgin Mobile is stepping up its operations in Latin America, with operations in Chile, Colombia and Mexico and it recently won approval to operate in Brazil.

Movilnet said it has plans to establish fibre, 4G broadband services and cloud.

"Our experience in Latin America allows us to present our services to users, especially to young audiences,” said Philip Wallace, president of Virgin Mobile.

The country’s telecoms minister, Jaime Guerrero met with representatives from both companies and said: “It’s interesting to know the services that other operators have to provide our citizens.”
