LG Uplus and Huawei establish mobile innovation facility

South Korean mobile operator LG Uplus and China’s Huawei have partnered to establish a mobile innovation centre (MIC) in Seoul, South Korea.

The MIC will see LG Uplus use Huawei’s solutions and products to improve its service offerings, as well as jointly accelerate LTE-A carrier aggregation, 5G and small cell innovation.

“Establishing the new MIC will provide both LG Uplus and Huawei with an increased competitive advantage in the ICT market,” said Kim Sun Tae, EVP of service and development division at LG Uplus.

The two companies signed a MoU on July 30, 2014 to mark the development of the facility which is expected to advance communications technology for people in South Korea.

“Huawei is committed to bringing the world’s most advanced mobile broadband services to more people worldwide, and industry co-operation, such as the one we have with LG Uplus, makes it even easier for us to do so,” said Yang Choabin, CMO at Huawei Wireless Networks.

Another Chinese vendor, ZTE, partnered with TIM Brasil late last month, to create an innovation centre focussed around next-generation broadband technologies.
