Etisalat and du to finalise network sharing agreement by end of 2014

Middle Eastern operator du expects to have a fully functional IP and broadband service in the UAE before the end of the year.

The company has been working with market leader Etisalat on a network sharing deal since 2009, but numerous delays due to disagreements between the companies have affected du’s ability to compete in the market.

du ended Etisalat’s domestic monopoly in the UAE in 2007, but it has been constrained by only being able to offer limited services in new areas of Dubai.

Through the network sharing deal, du will be able to offer services including VoIP and broadband, with IPTV added later, confirmed Osman Sultan, CEO at the company.

“In the fixed segment, competition did not play yet, so strategically this will be a very interesting platform of growth for us,” said Sultan.

Sultan added du would release revenue impacts as a result of the new services in the coming quarters.
