Telstra invests in TeleSign

Australian operator Telstra has announced a strategic investment in mobile identity services company TeleSign.

TeleSign creates mobile verification solutions for end users, which in turn allows operators to manage the security of their networks by predicting suspicious activity prior to its occurrence. Customers are also protected from existing threats.

Mark Sherman, managing director at Telstra Ventures, said that with the extensive growth of data services worldwide, mobile operators need to ensure that customers can use mobile services without security concerns.

“The TeleSign solution brings additional security to data and identity, enabling a safe and confident service experience,” Sherman said. “We hope to be able to offer a range of mobile identity solutions from this innovative provider and we will work closely with TeleSign to explore opportunities to bring this technology to our own customers.”

The investment follows reports earlier this year that Telstra was fined by Australian IT authorities for an extensive data leak.
