Finnish operator Ukkoverkot has selected Huawei for the deployment of what the Chinese vendor claims to be the world’s first commercial LTE 450MHz network. Huawei will deploy an end-to-end network solution for Ukkoverkot, including base stations and devices, in a bid to ensure a smooth migration from Ukkoverkot's existing CDMA operations. [read more]

Zayo Group has completed a 100G upgrade on its long-haul network in Europe. The 100G platform runs on routes from London to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Paris, and Paris to London. [read more]

Sichuan Unicom, the Sichuan branch of China United Network Communications Group (China Unicom), has partnered with national vendor Huawei for what is claimed to be the world’s first commercial SDN-based IP radio access network (IPRAN). The SDN IPRAN has been deployed in Chengdu, Sichuan's provincial capital in south west China, and is said to be the first time SDN technology has been applied to an IPRAN network. [read more]

ViaSat and Eutelsat have signed an agreement that will enable service access and roaming on their respective satellite networks. The move will enable customer roaming between North America and Europe, and is said to be one of the first interconnection agreements between high-capacity satellites. [read more]

Swedish vendor Ericsson has revealed a seven-year managed services contract with subsidiaries of Greece’s OTERomtelecom and Cosmote Romania. The agreement will see Ericsson manage the fixed-line and mobile networks of both operators in the country and extends the Swedish vendor's managed services footprint in Romania. [read more]

T-Mobile has reportedly become the first operator in the Czech Republic to launch LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) services. The operator has combined two frequency bands to offer peak download and upload speeds of 225Mbps and 50Mbps respectively, to customers in Mladá Boleslav in the central Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. Telekom Austria’s Macedonian subsidiary, Vip Operator, has launched a 4G LTE network in the country. The network reportedly delivers a ten-fold increase in transmission speeds compared to a 3G network and offers the largest coverage in the Republic of Macedonia, reaching 40% of the population. Kiwi operator 2degrees switched on its 4G network in Auckland, on New Zealand’s North Island, for the first time. The 4G network is now live in 72 sites around central Auckland following a three-month trial, and comes ahead of 2degree's initial schedule. [read more]

Telstra Global has added two PoPs in Taiwan, as it aims to strengthen its network across Asia-Pacific. The move is aimed at keeping pace with increasing customer demand and is said to help multinational organisations tap into new opportunities in the region. [read more]
