TalkTalk appoints chief technical officer

TalkTalk has appointed Gary Steen as its CTO.

He replaces Clive Dorsman, who retires this summer after 17 years at the UK operator.

Steen moves from his present role as the company’s chief development and delivery officer. He will oversee the company’s technology capabilities, including network build and operations, as well as IT and software developments.

Steen brings over 20 years’ experience to the role, having worked with companies such as AOL, Vodafone, BT, O2 and Carphone Warehouse, before joining TalkTalk in 2012.

“Having been with us for over two years already, Gary fully understands our commitment to making Britain better off by providing customers with simple, value for money products, all made possible thanks to our state-of-the-art network. His wealth of expertise in technical innovation will strengthen our position even further,” said TalkTalk CEO Dido Harding.

The appointment forms part of the company’s strategy to grow its next-generation network, which reaches over 95% of British homes.

Earlier this year, the operator announced that it is building its own fibre-to-the-premise network, bringing speeds of up to 1Gbps to homes and businesses in York, as part of a joint venture with Sky and CityFibre.
