Zain and Nokia demonstrate HD VoLTE

Zain Kuwait and Nokia Networks claim to have successfully completed Kuwait’s first ever voice over LTE (VoLTE) call, using Zain’s commercial LTE network.

Nokia Networks’ used its VoLTE solution to conduct the high-definition voice call with video capability, and simultaneously accessed ultra-fast data services over Zain’s LTE network.

“Today’s VoLTE success with Nokia Networks’ solution is an important milestone in our planning for the future, which will translate into providing enhanced mobile broadband services to our customers across Kuwait, offering them an opportunity to enjoy unparalleled quality,” said Omar Saud Al Omar, CEO at Zain Kuwait.

Nokia Network’s VoLTE solution comprises its IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), subscriber data management and open telecommunications application server (TAS), and is designed to enable better voice calls, faster data services and more efficient use of network resources.

“It even reduces operating costs for operators,” said Mohamed Diab, head of Zain Kuwait customer team at Nokia Networks, citing its network simplification feature.

“With our VoLTE technology, Zain Kuwait will also be able to integrate network resources, optimise network and service management, and simplify service delivery by providing voice and data services on the same LTE network.”

Nokia Networks also helped Zain Kuwait to prepare its network for the demonstration using its professional services for VoLTE.

Earlier this week, Zain Kuwait signed a partnership with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for the deployment of the equipment vendor’s operations support systems (OSS) solution.
